Privacy Policy
RecipeSweep is built so the question "what data do you collect about me?" has a one-word answer: none. The rest of this section explains how the app actually works so you can verify that for yourself.
What the app stores
RecipeSweep stores the following on your device:
- Recipes you enter or import (title, ingredients, steps, photos you attach, ratings, tags, cook log)
- Meal plans you create (which recipe goes on which day)
- Pantry items you've told the app about
- Generated and archived grocery lists
- App settings and preferences
This data is also written to your private CloudKit container, which is scoped to your Apple ID and managed by iCloud on your behalf. Apple controls that storage. RecipeSweep operates no servers and has no access to that container outside of what your device reads and writes locally.
Network calls the app makes
The app makes only two kinds of network calls, and both are user-initiated:
- Recipe extraction: when you paste a URL into the import sheet (or share a page from Safari), the app fetches that page directly from the cooking site you chose and parses its embedded structured data. The request goes from your iPhone to the source site. Nothing is routed through us.
- iCloud sync: handled entirely by Apple's CloudKit framework. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. Sync runs silently when iCloud is enabled at the OS level.
There are no analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting libraries. If we ever use Apple's MetricKit for performance diagnostics, it remains on-device and reports nothing to us.
Permissions
RecipeSweep asks for these iOS permissions only when you use the corresponding feature, and you can revoke any of them at any time in Settings → RecipeSweep:
- Camera
- Used only when you tap the camera button to attach a photo to a recipe. Photos are stored with the recipe; nothing is uploaded.
- Photo Library
- Used only when you choose a photo from your library to attach to a recipe. Same as above — local-only.
- Reminders
- Used only when you ask the app to export a grocery list to the Reminders app. RecipeSweep writes to the Reminders list and stops.
- iCloud
- Used to sync your library across your own devices via your Apple ID. Controlled by iOS. Disabling iCloud Drive disables sync.
Children
RecipeSweep is rated 4+ in the App Store. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age, including children under 13. Because nothing is collected, COPPA compliance is automatic.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and bump the effective date at the top. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
