Privacy & Terms

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Short version: BookSweep stores everything on your device. We don't have an account system. We don't run analytics. We don't sell, share, or transmit your reading data. The only network call BookSweep makes is to look up a book you scan.

Privacy Policy

1. What information we collect

None on our servers. BookSweep is a local-only app. The reading data you create — semesters, courses, books, page counts, and reading logs — is stored in a private database on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not have access to it.

2. What we don't collect

  • No account, email address, name, or contact information.
  • No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking. We do not know which screens you open or how long you spend in the app.
  • No advertising identifiers. The app contains no ads and no ad SDKs.
  • No location data.
  • No contacts, calendars, photos, or other on-device data outside what you explicitly enter.

3. Camera

BookSweep can use your device's camera to scan ISBN barcodes when you choose to add a book. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device by Apple's Vision framework. No image, frame, or video is transmitted off your device. If you deny camera access, you can still add books by typing the ISBN or the book's details by hand.

4. Network requests

The only network requests BookSweep makes are to public book metadata services to look up the title, author, and page count of a scanned ISBN:

These services receive only the ISBN you are looking up. They do not receive any account information, device identifier, or other data from BookSweep beyond what is included in a normal HTTPS request (your IP address). We do not control the privacy practices of these third-party services. You can avoid all network requests by entering book details by hand.

5. Children

BookSweep is appropriate for general audiences and does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

6. Data retention and deletion

Because all data is stored on your device, you control retention. Use Settings → "Reset all data" inside the app, or delete BookSweep from your device, to remove all data. Once deleted, it cannot be recovered, because no copy exists anywhere else.

7. Your rights

If you live in a jurisdiction that grants data-subject rights (such as the GDPR or CCPA), you may exercise them by deleting the app or resetting data inside it. Because we have no copy of your data, we cannot grant access, portability, or correction requests on data we never received.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy materially changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Substantive changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.

Terms of Use

1. The agreement

By installing or using BookSweep, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.

2. License

BookSweep is licensed, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to install and use BookSweep on Apple devices that you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms.

3. Acceptable use

  • You will not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, except to the extent that applicable law expressly prohibits such restriction.
  • You will not use BookSweep to violate any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
  • You will not redistribute, sublicense, rent, or resell the app.

4. Third-party services

BookSweep uses third-party book metadata services (Open Library and Google Books) to look up book information by ISBN. We do not control and are not responsible for those services or any information they return. Use of those services is also governed by their own terms.

5. Disclaimer of warranty

BookSweep is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that schedules generated will perfectly match your real-world reading speed, or that book metadata returned by third-party services will be complete or accurate.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will BookSweep, its developer, or its affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including missed deadlines, lost grades, or any other academic outcome — arising out of or related to your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim related to BookSweep will not exceed the amount you paid for the app.

7. Termination

You may stop using BookSweep at any time by deleting it from your device. We may discontinue the app or features within it at any time, in which case the most recent version remains usable on devices where it is installed, subject to compatibility with future iOS versions.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas, except where Apple's Media Services Terms or local consumer protection law require otherwise.

9. Apple-specific terms

You acknowledge that these Terms of Use are between you and the developer of BookSweep, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for BookSweep. In the event of any failure of BookSweep to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
